Oil Pastels

Oil pastels are considered a fast medium because they are easy to work with and convenient to carry around. Similar to crayons, but for the binder being wax-oil, the pigments are much richer and easy to manipulate. They are often used for sketching by artist, but can also be used for sustained works.

In our class we will delve into the basics of drawing before rendering with oil pastels. Projects vary from simple still life to advanced landscapes, depending on the age group and their experience level. Open to ages 4 and above, adults are also welcome to join in the fun.

ACRYLICS

Ages 7 and above, with some experience in art

Acrylics

Acrylic paint is a forgiving medium that allows the artist to explore painting with the flexibility of correcting mistakes. It is made of pigment suspended in an emulsion of acrylic polymer. Being water-soluble, it can be diluted and cleaned with water , though gels, mediums and pastes can be used for varying looks like watercolors, gouache or oils. Acrylic paints when dry are water resistant and have unique characteristics not attainable with other media

We begin with a very simple sketch of the project on pre-stretched, triple primed canvas before applying paints. Projects vary from simple still life to advanced landscapes, depending on the age group and their experience level. Open to ages 9 and above, adults who wish to explore this medium, will certainly enjoy these on going classes.

WATER COLORS

Ages 12 and above with ample experience with other mediums

Watercolors

A medium that is generally introduced to kids, watercolors are pigments in a water-soluble binder. Available as cakes or tubes, this medium is highly preferred for its transparency and delicate look it can help bring.

Our class involves the artist way of using watercolors, where the varying techniques are introduced and incorporated in progressively intense projects. Starting with a simple drawing of the project, we will generally juggle two projects at a time to make out time worthwhile as we wait for the paint to dry. Projects vary from simple still life to advanced landscapes, depending on the age group and their experience level. Open to ages 12 and above, adults are also welcome to join in the fun.

SKETCHING

Ages 10 and above, with some experience in art

Sketching

Graphite pencil is the by far the most common medium that we have all dealt with from a very young age. Made of a narrow, solid core with pigment in a protective casing, graphite can be soft or more black with a higher proportion of graphite, or hard or less black with a lower proportion than clay, which is the binder.

We begin with a very simple sketch of the project on paper before continuing to render with varying strokes and techniques. Projects vary in complexity based on the age group and their experience level. Open to ages 10 and above, adults will be equally challenged and enjoy the process of creation. Due to the expertise required in the application of pressure, this medium can be quite interesting in just shade of gray.

OILS

Ages 12 and above with ample experience with other mediums

Oils

Oils is the medium of the masters. From the days when pigments were ground and mixed with oils to create the masterpieces, this medium has been one sought after by many. From simple still life to complex portraits, the magic of this medium is analyzed and explored in each project. Open to ages 12 and above, adults are also welcome to join the classes to enrich their art journey
